Your privacy
Privacy Policy
Your journeys are personal. This page explains how Tesla Trips handles the information used to record and remember them.
Published 15 September 2026. The app provisions below take effect when Tesla Trips becomes publicly available on the App Store. Website and support provisions apply now.
Who we are
Tesla Trips is provided by Byteforge SRL, Str. Măgurei nr. 9, ap. 11, Târgu Mureș, Mureș, 540003, Romania. Byteforge SRL is responsible for the personal information processed to operate the service. For support or privacy requests, contact support@teslatrips.app.
Trip information on your iPhone
When you start recording, the app uses precise location, timestamps, speed, altitude and related GPS measurements to build your route and statistics. It stores your saved trips, addresses, and any photos, notes or tags you choose to add on your iPhone. Phone GPS measurements are not uploaded to our vehicle-data server. Device backups and reports you export or share can create additional copies under your control.
Location access is needed to record a route. Background recording requires the appropriate iOS location permission and is subject to iOS restrictions. During an unfinished recording, significant location changes may allow iOS to relaunch the app and resume recording. Stopping a recording disables this recovery monitoring. You can change permissions in iOS Settings; doing so may prevent some recording features from working.
Tesla account and vehicle information
If you connect a vehicle, Tesla handles authorization. Our service uses authorization tokens and account and vehicle identifiers, such as the vehicle identification number and display name, to connect your selected vehicle. Available readings can include vehicle location, speed, battery level, charging status, charging power and energy, and other vehicle state information used for trip statistics.
Vehicle readings pass through our server before synchronization with your iPhone. The vehicle-data server is hosted on a Hostinger VPS in Germany. Telemetry is requested for an active recording and stopped when recording ends. If the phone stops communicating, a configurable inactivity limit stops telemetry; the default is 12 hours. This inactivity limit is separate from data retention.
How long information is kept
- Vehicle readings: automatically deleted from the server after successful synchronization with the iPhone app. Unsynchronized readings are automatically deleted no later than three days after receipt. These are the retention rules for the public app launch.
- Saved trips: remain on your iPhone until you delete them or remove the app’s local data. Backups and shared exports must be managed separately.
- Connection information: account and vehicle identifiers and authorization credentials are retained as needed to provide your connection, until removed through account deletion or no longer needed. Deleting vehicle readings does not delete the connection account.
- Local diagnostic logs: older log files are removed when their combined storage exceeds 50 MB. These logs are stored on the phone.
- Support correspondence: conversations and ordinary attachments are deleted within 12 months after a request is resolved. Diagnostic log and trip-database attachments are deleted within 30 days after resolution.
We may retain information that is specifically necessary to meet a legal obligation or handle a legal claim for the applicable period. Copies you send to other recipients are governed by their own practices.
Diagnostics and support
The app records local diagnostic events, including app launches, setup actions, recording sessions, settings changes, server communication summaries and internal processing. A bug report is sent only when you choose to send it. You can choose whether to include logs or a database attachment. A database can contain precise routes, photos, notes and other personal information, so review your choice before sharing.
When you contact us, we use your email address, message and selected attachments to respond and investigate the issue. Never send your Tesla password or other account passwords.
Maps, hosting and other recipients
The app uses Apple map services. Selected coordinates are sent directly from your phone to Apple to retrieve addresses. Apple and Tesla process information required for their services under their own privacy notices. Our website, support mailbox and vehicle server use Hostinger services. Hosting providers can process technical information such as IP addresses, request times and browser or connection details to deliver and protect those services.
We share information with service providers only as needed to operate the service, with recipients you choose when sharing a report, or where disclosure is required by law. Our German vehicle server does not mean that every third-party service processes information only in Germany. Where processing involves transfers outside the European Economic Area, applicable data-protection requirements and safeguards must be met. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
Why we process information
We process information needed to provide the trip-recording and vehicle-connection features you request to perform our service agreement with you. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable service and responding to support requests for proportionate technical and support processing. Where processing requires consent, we request it and you may withdraw it. We may also process information to meet legal obligations. An iOS permission controls device access; it does not remove your data-protection rights.
Website use
Visiting this website generates technical requests to our hosting provider. Necessary cookies or similar storage may be used for site functions and security; WordPress administrator sign-in also uses authentication cookies. If optional tracking is introduced, we will explain it and obtain consent where required. You can manage cookies through your browser. The support email link opens your email application and does not send a message until you choose to send it.
Your choices and rights
You can stop recording, change device permissions, delete local trips, and use Delete account in the app’s connection settings to request removal of the server account. Deleting a local trip is not the same as deleting your server account. You may also contact us to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
We may need proportionate information to verify a request. You can complain to your local data-protection authority, including Romania’s ANSPDCP. Contact support@teslatrips.app for privacy requests.
Security and changes
We use measures appropriate to the information processed, including encrypted network connections and protected credential storage. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Share exported trips carefully, particularly when they identify your home, work or other people.
We will update this page when our practices change and provide additional notice where required. Tesla Trips is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Tesla, Inc.
